The United Nations condemned the use of human shields on Tuesday as part of General Assembly’s updated counter-terrorism plan, aimed at Hamas’s misuse of hospitals and schools for military purposes.

Although the United Nations accused Israel of excessive violence during the riots in May and previously rejected advancements by the United States to condemn Hamas for encouraging violence, Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon welcomed the stance as an “important step in our activities to change the rules of the game at the UN.” He continued, saying, “There is much work to be done, but this milestone accomplishment brings us closer to the day when the UN will focus on truly bringing security and stability to the world.”
